Ordinary people serving an extraodinary God!

Chistochina, Alaska

ALASKA 2010

The mission trip this year to Chistochina afforded us many opportunities to share Christ in a variety of ways. Through service projects, scrapbooking, backyard Bible clubs, meals, the Jesus video, giving materials, and one on one sharing.
We arrived in Alaska late Thursday evening and stayed in Eagle River at Valley View Baptist Church. Very early the next morning we traveled to Seward and spent the night there. We returned to Anchorage Saturday evening and bought our week’s supply of groceries. Sunday our group worshiped with the believers at Valley View Baptist and then we began the 6 hour drive to Chistochina. We arrived there about 5:30 pm. Immediately we began to clean the entire tribal hall, set up our living space, assemble our outside shower, and fix supper. Monday was our first day of service projects. We cleared about an acre field behind the tribal hall, all in the rain. The team then began to prepare and serve a meal for the entire village, about 40 plus people. After the meal, part of our team scrapbooked with the women of the village, while the others held a Bible club for the kids. The next day (Tues.) we worked at one of the elders home, Mrs. Ruby’s. There we cleared her yard, turned her garden, and cut firewood. That evening we fed the village, did a kid’s Bible club, scrapbooking, and fellowshipped with the people who came. Wednesday we traveled about 55 miles away to help another elder. She had a leaky roof and needed her yard cleaned-up. About 25 miles of the trip was up a muddy gravel road. It rained the whole time we were working there. When we got home that evening we were extremely wet and tired. Thursday the team cleared another acre across from the tribal hall. This area was a staging place for the Copper River 300 dog sled race, which is a qualifier for the great Iditarod. That evening we cut wood for Jerry & Lena Charley, two elders of the village. Early Friday morning we got up, packed up, cleaned the tribal hall, and began our trip back to Anchorage. We traveled that day then boarded our flights that night for home. We traveled Friday night and arrived home Saturday night. The group didn’t sleep (except for a nap) from Friday morning to Saturday night. Needless to say we got home tired, but happy. Happy to serve our Savior, Jesus Christ.
We were able to witness at the village in various ways. The meals became times of fellowship we could visit and share. The scrapbooking used Bible verses to communicate a witness. At the  children’s Bible clubs, the kids heard Bible stories and the plan of salvation. We gave out the Jesus Video and other materials. The service projects were an expression of Christ’s love. We prayed for them and with them. Now we ask you to pray for the people of Chistochina, that they would be saved. Thank-you church family for the incredible support and prayers. Without you our team could not have went.
